TORNADOES SPOTTED
More tornadoes were spotted in January, 1999 than any other January on record, with an unofficial count of 161. The preious record for a January was in 1975 with 52. January 21, 1999 also set a record when 87 tornadoes were reported, the most for any day in January.
AVERAGE SPEED OF CARS AND TRUCKS
A 1999 survey conducted by the Ohio State Patrol shows that than average speed of cars and trucks on Ohio interstate highways ranges from 70-80 mph. Speed continues to be the leading contributor to crashes in the Buckeye state.
ROAD RAGE OCCURS MOST OFTEN ON FRIDAYS
Although it can strike anytime, road rage occurs most often on Friday afternoons, in peak travel time and in fair weather conditions, according to a study conducted by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. From 1990-1996, more than 10,000 road rage accidents occurred in the U.S.
LEAD-FOOTED DRIVERS WATCH OUT
In 1998, 438,00 written warnings were issued to lead-footed drivers in the Buckeye state.
COMPUTERS STOLEN, DAMAGED OR OTHERWISE DESTROYED
A study by Columbus, OH-based Safeware Insurance found that more than 1.5 million computers were stolen, damaged or otherwise destroyed in 1998. Reported accidents to notebook PCs dominate the losses at 49%. More than a quarter of all reported notebook losses were due to theft, a decrease of 11% over the previous year.
